About the Relief Fund

In March 2020, in response to the pandemic, Early Years established its COVID-19 Relief Fund to support child care programs through this unprecedented challenge. Early Years has always played a role in helping child care programs provide the highest quality early learning experience for our state’s youngest children. Now that programs are struggling to meet the needs of our workforce and families returning to work, Early Years will be a lifeline for programs to get the tools and resources they need during this challenging time.

Through two phases, Early Years provided more than $260,000 in grants to approximately 750 child care programs in 82 of North Carolina’s 100 counties, helping them get the resources they need to keep the children in their care safe and healthy. These centers are the backbone of our economy in normal circumstances, and this crisis has highlighted how truly important they are.

On behalf of Early Years and all the child care programs across the state, we offer our most sincere gratitude to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation, the PNC Foundation, the Truist Charitable Fund, ChildTrust Foundation and other private donors, Smart Start and everyone who played a part in this effort to support child care in North Carolina during these challenging times.
