Child and Adult Care Food Program
We help family child care homes serve nutritious meals by sponsoring the USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program.
Supporting Providers and Improving Child Nutrition
Early Years sponsors the USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for family child care homes in Durham and surrounding counties. The CACFP is designed to improve the nutritional status of children in child care and support child care providers by reimbursing them for healthy meals served in child care settings.
The Early Years CACFP can be reached at foodprogram@earlyyearsnc.org.
The CACFP partially reimburses child care providers for meals they serve that meet nutritional guidelines at no cost to their families. Family child care homes access the CACFP through a sponsoring organization, such as Early Years. More information for families and child care providers can be found on the USDA website.
Joining the CACFP as a Family Child Care Home
It is important for a family child care home provider to find a sponsoring organization that is a good fit for them and their business. A sponsoring organization provides training, administrative support, and monitoring to child care providers. A full list of CACFP sponsors in North Carolina can be found on the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services website.
If you are interested in joining the Early Years CACFP program, please contact us at foodprogram@earlyyearsnc.org or call our office and ask for the Food Program. We will schedule a time to go over our program and the steps for joining the CACFP.
