Early Years is proud to be awarded and recognized as an Accredited Provider of The International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). The International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) developed the original Continuing Education Unit (CEU) and ensures that organizations/agencies providing continuing education and training can prove they provide high-quality instruction by following the ANSI/IACET 2018-1 Standard for Continuing Education and Training through a rigorous accreditation process. The ANSI/IACET Standard focuses on how continuing education and training programs are developed, provides a certifiable framework of researched and proven best practices.
CEU FAQs
One (1) CEU equals ten (10) contact hours of participation in organized continuing education classes and/or training conducted by a qualified instructor. A contact hour is equivalent to one 60-minute interaction between an instructor and the participant. The continuing education unit (CEU) was designed to: (1) Provide a standard unit of measurement, (2) Quantify continuing education and training (CE/T) activities; and (3) Accommodate for the diversity of providers, activities, and purposes in adult education.
A .5 CEU may be granted for learning event/class that are five (5) hours in length.
Early Years was approved as an accredited provider, so participants can receive credit for most of our professional development offerings with clear objectives to meet learner needs and in which participant learning can be assessed. CEUs are not available for exhibit hall presentations, meetings, social learning event/class, archived online learning event/class, or those sessions that provide participants with information about a particular "product" or program without including measurable learning objectives.
Each participant will sign a check-in roster at the learning event/class or attendance will be taken by the instructor or designee. Participants must attend the entire learning event/class for which they registered. Participants are to complete all requirements of the learning event/class in order to receive credit. Certificates are prepared in advance of the learning event/class but will not be distributed to participants until the following forms have been completed: (1) pre/post evaluation, (2) course evaluation and (3) instructor evaluation form. For online learning event/class, Early Years staff will review participant attendance via the online learning platform. Certificates are awarded after the confirmation of complete attendance.
Upon registering for a learning event/class, you will be provided a description of the learning event/class, learning outcomes, technology requirements and number of CEUs you will receive upon completion. Each certificate will include the number of CEUs earned and the number of contact hours. The number of CEUs earned is equivalent to the in-service credit hours required specifically for early childhood educators. A historical record for each participant will be kept by Early Years for a period of at least seven years. Collecting participants' ID Numbers, current home addresses will help ensure that records are accurate as participants move between jobs.
Yes. First, Early Years-endorsed instructors will be used, wherever appropriate, for learning events/classes in which CEUs are awarded. The instructors will have completed a detailed Instructor Approval Application, Learning Event/Course Approval Form, along with a copy of their current resume with evidence of prior instruction experience and certificate of certification in the field of their expertise. The applications will be reviewed by PD/CE/T staff for alignment with NC Foundations of Early Learning and Development and with IACET Standard for instructors of CEUs. When a professional development learning event/class would benefit most from a recognized expert in the field, Early Years reserves the right to invite individuals as instructors/presenters. An instructor who determines that a participant has not gained satisfactory knowledge from a particular professional development learning event/class may withhold the certificate and inform the appropriate Early Years PD/CE/T staff of that decision. Final discretion on awarding CEUs will reside with Early Years PD-CE/T office administering the learning event/class.
Once a participant has successfully completed a learning/event/class, the credit taken and achieved is recorded on an online portal and maintained for future requests. You may request a copy of your transcript at any time. The registration and credit information is confidential and will be provided only to the participant for their record.
Upon completion of registration, the participant will receive a confirmation of registration. The confirmation will include a notification that if you have any special needs, disabilities or technology needs, the participant is to contact the PD-CE/T office at least 24-36 hours before the day of the learning event/class, information will be assessed and accommodations will be provided as needed.
The online learning event/class are in-person, real-time experiences. For these events, a computer, internet access and video camera are required for participation. Participants will need to click on the link provided for you in your confirmation. Participants are required to be present online for the entire time.
